Memories of a Beatnik - Diane Di Prima

So I opened the book and (as I had read one just recently, that didn't belong to me) thought: "this one. I'm gonna mark it all over. A book to mark it all")
I noticed on the first page, an underlined paragraph, from a previous time that I started the book.

"Or, as my eleven-year-old daughter recently said to me, remembering the early years of her childhood: I really miss those old days. They were hard, but they were beautiful."

So yes, I do think / I still think that the moments in which you open books are completely and utterly perfect.

M Train - Patti Smith

I arrived early to Schiphol Airport so after going through passport control I sat on a cafe, had coffee, ate a sandwich and texted my boyfriend I love him a thousand times.

I miss Tesco's sandwiches. Cheap and good. This one was a "Dutch Special" with hard bacon and dry "artisan bread". It did the job anyway... I was starving and anxious.

I made a quick stop at the ladies toilet to freshen up and I walked to the gate while taking snaps of the airport with my phone. God I love airports. The landscapes I love the most from the modern world are festival crowd views and airports.

I was randomly assigned a window seat on the plane. I felt lucky.

After leaving my bag I opened "M Train". Patti was taking a plane to Mexico. She described a stressful situation during check-in when a member of staff insisted in her using the kiosk to get her boarding pass. Patti was growling about the 21st Century while searching for her reading glasses and hoping the machine would be more reliable than what she assumed. It wasn't.

I felt it is right to read M Train at the speed I am reading it. Here seating on a plane, I accompany Patti on her first visit to Casa Azul, former home and resting place of Frida Kahlo. I thought it was a sign. My Mom always tells me that I see signs everywhere and I interpret them as I wish. But aren't signs exactly that, and Life nothing more than what we make of it?

So I read and looked out the window and I cried a little:
"I sat before nearly two hundred guests in the garden. I scarcely could say what I talked about, but in the end I sang to them, as I had sung to the birds on my windowsill. It was a song that came to me while I lay in Diego's bed. It was about the butterflies that Noguchi had given to Frida. I saw tears streaming down the faces of the director and the women who had administered to me with such tender care. Faces I no longer remember.

Late that night there was a party in the park across from my hotel. My headache was completely gone. I packed, then looked out the window. The trees were strung with tiny Christmas lights though it was only the seventh of May. I went down to the bar and had a shot of a very young tequila. The bar was empty, as nearly everyone was in the park. I sat for a long time. The bartender refilled my glass. The tequila was light, like flower jouice. I closed my eyes and saw a green train with an M in a circle; a faded green like the back of a praying mantis."

Chicos - Sergio Bizzio

THE KALEIDOSCOPE OBSERVED. Passion is geometry. Rhombuses, cylinders, pulsing angles. Passion is geometry plunging into the abyss, observed from the dephs of the abyss.

On the screen I see only some lips spelling out their Atlantis moment

Estaba cambiado y tenia barba rubia

24 Hour Party People - Tony Wilson

They needed a name for the club.
That evening Gretton picked up the big green book. And therein read:
"FORMULARY OF A NEW URBANISM

Sure, I am from the other country.
We are bored in the city, there is no longer any Temple of the Sun. Between the legs of the women walking by, the dadaists imagined a monkey wrench and the surrealists a crystal cup. That’s lost. We know how to read every promise in faces — the latest stage of morphology. The poetry of the billboards lasted twenty years. [...]
And you, forgotten, your memories ravaged by all the consternations of two hemispheres, stranded in the Red Cellars of Pali-Kao, without music and without geography, no longer setting out for the hacienda where the roots think of the child and where the wine is finished off with fables from an old almanac. That’s all over. You’ll never see the hacienda. It doesn’t exist.
The hacienda must be built."
"We'll call the club the Haçienda."
Ok
What a great fucking name.

24 Hour Party People - Tony Wilson

"The little bossy boots that was Wilson fought like fuck for art, art that seemingly only he understood or valued."

Morrissey The Autobiography - Morrissey

This isn't about Factory, this isn't about Tony Wilson or Steven Morrissey; it's about Manchester, and Manchester only. [...] I think the young people of this area deserve to know themselves, to understand how important they are. I think City Fun's greatest hits and Shy Talk and Out There should be reprinted, and have Cummins pic of the Electric Circus hanging on the wall; I think the works of Garrett and Saville and Mulvey and Boone should be diaplayed and... Yakkety-yak, thud." Tony Wilson's letter to Morrissey
Y entonces Kevin Cummins me escribió un mensaje

On Photography - Susan Sontang

just about everything has been photographed, or so it seems

The Age of Magic - Ben Okri

"Some things only become clear much later. [...] Begin at the beginning; at the mid-point begin again, and at the end return to the beginning. Never move far from the alpha of life. Replenish yourself in the aleph. Renew the core with the alf. In A we begin and to A we return. [...] He didn't know it at the time. But there, in the train station, of all places, he had experienced a bit of Eden. [...] Everything they saw was wrapped in the mystery of first encounters. [...] Something of our deeper selves lives in the magic of first encounters. We try later to recapture that first enchantment, but only rare experiences reawaken it.
-Maybe we'll awaken the magic of this walk in a future journey.
-I suppose that's what a classic is.
-what?
-A work that has the spring of eternal freshness within it. It manages to be new each time you encounter it.
-Yes - Mistletoe said - But some time needs to pass for the magic to be renewed. [...] So they strode into the depths of the pub like enchanters, altering reality by altering themselves. All at once they seemed like regulars who had been away for a long time. They went to the counter and ordered two pints of the local beer and looked around, as if they were curious about the new faces they saw leaning against the walls, standing in clusters, darkening the ceiling with smoke. [...]"

"So books should be lived to be read.
And life should be dreamt to be lived"

The Age of Magic - Ben Okri

Pensé en Patti (the golden age).

"The age of magic has begun. Unveil your eyes."

"Do you know what the luckiest thing is?"
"No"
"It is to be at home everywhere".

*Hoy mientras mirábamos y escuchábamos a The Wave Pictures en The Lexington, Nico me preguntó si tenía algo para escribir.

"Those who perish in the struggle to turn their dreams into reality are more admirable than those who live and die without giving a sign that they were ever alive. One of the greatest legacies we can leave future generations is the knowledge that we fought the beautiful fight."

"A film never gets made with mantras and meditation. Hard graft, the march of a thousand miles, and the willingness to sacrifice almost everything is what gets a film to the big screen."

*"He watched the twenty-two pieces of luggage being driven away. There are twenty-two letters in Jewish alphabet, twenty-two cards in the major arcana of Tarot, and twenty-two paths on the tree of life."

me observa inmóvil, acercarme
adentrarme en el bosque
salvaje vuelta a casa
